Chesapeake Search Partners is partnering with a well-respected Maryland-based financial institution to identify its next Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. This highly visible executive leadership opportunity is ideal for a strategic yet hands-on financial executive who excels at the intersection of financial stewardship, regulatory oversight, balance sheet management, and organizational growth.
Reporting directly to the President & CEO and working closely with the Board of Directors, the CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for guiding the institution's financial strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing financial performance, and supporting long-term growth initiatives. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the bank's financial future while advancing its mission to serve customers, shareholders, employees, and the communities in which it operates.
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Provide executive oversight of all accounting, financial reporting, and treasury functions for both the bank and holding company.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial statements, regulatory filings, and management reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of Call Reports and other regulatory filings to the FDIC, Federal Reserve, and applicable state banking agencies.
- Partner with executive leadership and Human Resources to assess organizational needs, develop talent, and ensure the Finance function is appropriately staffed to support strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the management of liquidity, interest rate risk, capital adequacy, and overall balance sheet strategy.
- Oversee the investment portfolio, including funding strategies, securities pledging requirements, and net interest margin optimization.
- Serve as a key participant in the Asset-Liability Management (ALCO) and Investment Committees, providing analysis, recommendations, and reporting to support decision-making.
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes for the bank and holding company.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to monitor financial performance, manage expenses, and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and profitability enhancement.
- Analyze financial results and key performance metrics, providing actionable insights and recommendations to senior management and the Board.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable banking regulations, accounting standards, and internal control requirements related to finance, treasury, and reporting functions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of evolving regulatory requirements impacting capital, liquidity, and financial reporting.
- Lead capital planning and stress testing activities, including scenario analyses designed to assess capital adequacy under varying economic conditions.
- Support enterprise risk management efforts and ensure adherence to all federal and state regulatory requirements, policies, and training obligations.
- Partner closely with the CEO and Board of Directors on strategic initiatives, growth opportunities, capital planning, and potential merger and acquisition activities.
- Oversee accounting, valuation, reporting, and disclosure requirements related to stock-based compensation programs, including restricted stock awards.
- Serve as a primary liaison to shareholders and coordinate activities with the holding company's stock transfer agent.
- Present financial results, strategic recommendations, and key risk assessments to executive leadership, Board committees, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA strongly preferred. MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience within the banking or financial services industry.
- Deep knowledge of banking operations, GAAP, regulatory reporting, capital management, treasury functions, and asset-liability management.
- Prior experience managing federal funding programs, including CDFI Fund reporting and compliance requirements, preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic financial initiatives while maintaining a strong operational and regulatory foundation.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated success partnering with Boards of Directors, executive leadership teams, regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
