The Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) is seeking a visionary and influential Executive Director to lead one of Maryland's most impactful clean energy organizations at a pivotal time of growth and innovation.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, this highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the future of clean energy, energy efficiency, and economic development across the state while serving as MCEC's chief strategist, relationship builder, and operational leader.
The ideal candidate will combine executive-level leadership experience with the ability to build strong partnerships across government, industry, finance, and community stakeholders, driving transformative programs and investments that create lasting impact. Provide Strategic & Executive Leadership
Serve as the chief executive officer of MCEC, driving the organization's vision, strategy, and execution in alignment with Board-approved priorities and Maryland's clean energy goals.
Lead Organizational Operations & Team Development
Oversee day-to-day operations while mentoring and developing a high-performing leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Build and Strengthen Key Partnerships
Act as MCEC's primary ambassador, cultivating relationships with government officials, industry leaders, utilities, investors, workforce organizations, academic institutions, and other strategic stakeholders.
Oversee Programs, Initiatives & Market Growth
Direct the development, implementation, and performance of clean energy programs, financing initiatives, procurement support services, and technical assistance offerings, while identifying new opportunities for growth and impact.
Ensure Financial Stewardship & Organizational Sustainability
Lead budgeting, financial planning, audits, grants, investments, and resource management efforts to ensure responsible stewardship of public funds and long-term organizational success.
Support Board Governance & Organizational Compliance
Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, ensuring effective governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, ethical operations, and transparent reporting on organizational performance.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Significant executive leadership and relationship building experience in clean energy, finance, public administration, economic development, government, nonprofit, or related fields. Knowledge of tech commercialization is also relevant.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement, and especially State of Maryland government officials.
- Demonstrated experience leading both strategic initiatives and day-to-day organizational operations.
- Experience in project or structured finance, portfolio management, and public or quasi-public governance. Understanding of financial instruments used to finance clean energy projects.
- Experience with Board governance, personnel leadership, budgeting, grants, procurement, and organizational development.
- Event development and management experience desirable.
- Excellent public presentation, written and oral communication skills.
